Buckeye police detectives arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with a car crash Friday night in the 200 block of 5th Avenue West in Buckeye.

Police were called to that area about 7:15 p.m. on February 21, 2020 regarding a crash that involved five people.

As the investigation progressed, detectives learned that the 16-year-old driver had three passengers in his vehicle, two 18-year-olds and one 17-year old. Information indicates that some of the occupants had arranged to meet a subject to buy marijuana. Witnesses say when the subject approached the car, someone grabbed the marijuana baggie. The 16-year-old selling the marijuana was on the car as it drove away and crashed, causing him to be thrown from the hood suffering severe injuries.

On Monday, February 24, 2020, Buckeye detectives arrested the teen driver involved in the incident. He was booked into the Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Facility facing charges of aggravated assault. Additional charges are possible.

Due to the age of the suspect, his name is not being released.
