Buckeye Police Awarded Four Grants for DUI’s and Accident Investigations

The Buckeye Police Department is proud to announce the acceptance of four grants, totaling nearly $100,000 to reduce alcohol and drug related accidents and injuries, and enhance accident investigations and prosecutions of fatal accidents.  

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, under the direction of Alberto Gutier, awarded the Buckeye Police Department three of the grants for Federal Fiscal Year 2020.  

Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) – This $20,000 in grant money will support personnel overtime and procurement of materials and supplies for DUI/impaired driving enforcement activities; a cargo trailer, traffic cones, Doppler radars. The goal of the enforcement is to reduce alcohol and drug related injuries and fatalities through enforcement, education and public awareness in Buckeye.

DUI/Enforcement OT – This $41,070 in Federal funds will support personnel overtime, employee related expenses, materials and Supplies: BAC test kits, intoxilyzer mouthpieces, and capital outlay for an evidence recorder to enhance DUI/Impaired driving enforcement throughout the City of Buckeye.

Accident Investigation Overtime, Materials and Supplies - Federal funds in the amount of $17,490 have been awarded to the Buckeye Police Department to support overtime for accident investigations. This includes the costs of software and licensing for the Pix4D Mapper system, which is an invaluable tool in accident investigation and reconstruction. All of this will greatly enhance Accident Investigation Enforcement throughout the City of Buckeye.

The DUI Abatement Council awarded the fourth grant totaling $20,000 to the Buckeye Police Department. These funds will help with overtime, employee expenses, materials, and supplies. The objectives of the grant will aid in our DUI task force efforts during key high traffic holidays and special events. 

The Buckeye Police Department would like to thank the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety and the DUI Abatement Council for their continued support. These additional resources help Buckeye police combat impaired driving, reduce injuries and enhance our investigation and prosecution of fatal traffic crashes when they do occur.
