Water Resources employee wins Operator of the Year
The AZ Water Association recently awarded Water Resources Operator Jason Battern as the 2019 Operator of the Year – Small Plant at their annual conference.
Battern won the prestigious award in recognition of his hard work in the operations of the city of Buckeye wastewater treatment facilities. His dedication, innovation and knowledge of treating wastewater ensures Class A+ effluent is always available and ready for irrigation at three schools, one city park and a large golf course in the city.
Jason is also a key member in implementing the testing and operation of this critical and important reuse initiative for the city.
Utilizing his knowledge of the city and treatment practices, the department is delivering effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in the southern part of the city to the central area so the additional water can be reused for irrigation purposes or be discharged into the canal for critical water storage credits.
Finally, the passion Jason has for his work is evident every day. He holds his coworkers to the same high standards and truly cares of the environment and the residents of Buckeye. Battern also regularly provides tours of the city’s wastewater treatment facilities to educate students and residents on the important work most people take for granted.
